JCAPL Dog Wash - July 24, 2010

We did fabulous at the Dog Wash Saturday and it will go in the books as the best ever! None of this would be possible without the support of our great volunteers and assistance from community sponsors and supporters! The Dog Wash raised $865.00! You go team!

We bathed 45 canine customers and approximately 20-22 (all that they were able to bring) Johnston County Animal Services ("JCAS") dogs through community sponsorship. We had request to wash a few two-legged critters but when we agreed, they changed their minds!

We need to thank Robinson Animal Hospital for hosting the event; Deborah Scott from D&D Doghouse for giving up her Saturday to be our professional nail trimmer; JCAS (employees and volunteers) for giving up their day off to bring dogs to the event; Medlin Office Supply provided copies of our flyers for circulation and our community newspapers for published it.

We had a wonderful showing of youth volunteers and Brianna Lareau, had a chance as our new Volunteer Coordinator to rally the troops for the event. Kris Kellermeyer, Media Coordinator was able to get the word out and seen by lots of our community and to enlist our local newspapers to publish it in an effort of support. And, Jackie Potter canvassed parking lots and posted flyers everywhere, to name a few of the extra effort awards!

Anyone interested in a JCAS dog they are sweet smelling and ready for their forever homes. We only had one adoption but Lisa Carlson, Adoption Coordinator was not disappointed about the adoption numbers, as she is always optimistic about tomorrow, and said, "I'm just happy the dogs had a day out of the shelter to give them a break and be with people and get bathed too!" Ernie Wilkerson, JCAS Director made an appearance and Roger Davis, Animal Cruelty Officer, was there volunteering his time on a Saturday to assist in the effort.

The day was hot, hot, hot, and everyone who volunteered at this event deserves a super thank you for the sacrifice in toughing it out. Any amount of time spent outside was taxing on Saturday, but you said you would be there, and you were - despite the oppressive heat. YOU ARE THE BEST! The guys who were there at the bitter end tearing down you are my personal heroes. I could not have possibly got loaded up without you!

My final thank you goes to the teams who facilitated the POP - NC spay/neuter day and those who managed to hold an adoption event with a skeleton crew to give the JCAPL animals a chance at adoption into their forever homes.

The sacrifices of time, talent and treasure of our volunteers are endless, but the rewards are priceless. Please take a look below at the awesome pictures from the dogwash.

THANK YOU,
Cathy Adams
