October is Adopt-A-Dog Month

While adopting a dog at any time of year promises to be a most rewarding experience, October is Adopt-A-Dog Month, an event sponsored by American Humane, to raise awareness of what a dog has to offer as a family member and friend, and of the plight of many homeless dogs needing loving homes.

If you have room in your home and your heart for a canine companion, prepare yourself for making the adjustment successful for everyone by deciding which dog is right for you and your family. Whether you want to adopt a puppy, young dog, or an older dog, educate yourself about what to expect, how to prepare for your new family member and how to help him/her become a well-mannered, social dog.

Visit the American Humane Association's website for information about Adopt-A-Dog Month and what you need to consider before adopting a cat. Visit the HSUS website to read about Bringing your New Dog Home.

The following are just a few of the many resources available at JCAPL Resources for Pet Owners:

Dogs adopted during October who participate in our Walk for Homeless Animals on October 25th (BARKTOBERFEST) (provided they are old enough to participate) will receive special recognition for the luck they have found in their new families!
