PetSmart Adoption Day 9/22/12

Saturday was pretty laid back, so we will have a short recap.
Camille and Bailey both found forever homes.  It was Camille’s first time out in a while, and a wonderful gentleman picked her out first thing!  Bailey was adopted by our foster Wendy D.  She has fit right into the family!
Thanks to all of our school volunteers, we had a volunteer for every dog!  There was no waiting for walks or water.  Some of the girls even pitched in cleaning cat cages.
The wind almost took the tent away more than once!  We had to use bags of dog food and the cat litter bucket to hold down the legs.  That’s it for the big excitement this week.

Sept 22: Walmart Adoption Event, Dog Dayz event, Rabies Clinic, Microchip Clinic, and more!

This coming Saturday will be another busy one for JCAPL.

Along with the normal adoption at PetSmart, we will also being doing an adoption event at Walmart on Hwy 70 in Clayton, and a Rabies Vaccine clinic for DOGS ONLY courtesy of Dr. Sara Lash with Healthy Pets Mobile Vet.  The Walmart Adoption event is another chance to get the animals seen by a different crowd of people.  The last event at Walmart we only had kittens present and we adopted out half of those that came!

If you do not have a foster and can come assist with the rabies clinic, please let me know.

Shane Gentry with Sally Said So Professional Dog Training will also be hosting the Dog Dayz event across the street from Walmart on Saturday.  He will be having a micro chip clinic , Ernie from the shelter and a Nationwide Insurance rep will be there discussing the ins and outs of what happens when a dog bites, all the way up to what does your insurance cover.

He will also be giving some tips on dog training and have information on his upcoming classes, bounce house for the kids, free nail trim and other fun and informational “stuff”. Any donations will benefit JCAPL!  More info here>>

Just a reminder, we do have our monthly JCAPL meeting on Wed., Sept. 19 at Rainbow Lanes in Clayton at 6:30.  Hope to see you there!

Thanks for EVERYTHING that you do, or have done, for JCAPL.  Have a fabulous week!

Camille Wants Forever Home for First Birthday

“Born Here, Raised here!  Camille is 1 year old today….Happy Birthday, little Pooh Bear!  One of 9 puppies that came to JCAPL last November, she is a wonderful puppy that has so much love to give her new family.  She was adopted last January, but due to family illness, they had to return her broken hearted to foster care.  She is totally potty/crate trained, couch potato, car companion, and perfect alarm clock!  Loves children and other dogs as she lives with 4 other family pets.  Please consider her as a wonderful family dog!”

Fill out an adoption application now to reserve your chance to meet her and take her home!  And, learn about our Adoption Process here.

Adopt-a-Thon Weekend Sept 14-16 2012

JCAPL had an AWESOME weekend.  Between tons of adoptions at PetSmart and lots of new contacts and volunteer apps handed out on Saturday at the Harvest Festival, I for one think JCAPL had one of the best weekends in a long time!

Thank you to all of those that came out to either location over the weekend.

Here are some photos of this past weekend’s Mega Adopt-A-Thon!

Meet Savannah: Skin and Bones to Fat and Happy – and ready for Adoption!!

Savannah is a mommy dog that came into our program on August 23rd.  When we took her in she was extremely malnourished and neglected, you could see every bone in her body, and her hair was extremely thin.

She is now happy, healthy, and looking for a great forever home.  Her hair is still a little thin, but she is developing a shiny healthy coat.

Savannah is a very lovable American Staffordshire mix between 2 and 4 years old.  She is good with cats, small and large dogs, and children.  We are not sure about small children, but don’t anticipate any problems.  She is crate trained and knows basic commands.  Savannah loves to snuggle, and has a strong drive to please.

Savannah is soon to be spayed, current on all her vaccines and monthly preventatives, and will be microchipped as part of her adoption.

Fill out an application now to save your chance at adopting her!  And, learn about our Adoption Process here.

However, check out the online list and come on by PetSmart to meet us and see the furry friends who made it to the event. If yours isn’t there, we will work with the foster to arrange a meeting for you during the week.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

We also facilitate adoptions and other questions during the week. Email help@jcapl.org for more info.

Adoption day 9/1/12

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday and braved the heat! There were a lot of new faces, and we had a bunch of dogs show up.  It would be wonderful if we could draw this many dogs to every event.

Laverne found a forever home with a wonderful family!

Luna/Indy made her first showing.  She is a sweet, beautiful dog!

The Benson pups made their debut, and drew quite a crowd.  None got adopted at Petsmart, but Otter got an application that looks very promising.

Fantasia, Queenie, and Kimberly came out for the first time.  They are very sweet dogs.  Queenie has an interested family, that is going to return next weekend for a second visit.

Team work really pulled yesterday’s event together!

Thanks to Tracy for transporting Fantasia to CAH.  Thanks to Wendy W. for taking pictures, taking the Angels home, and dropping Shadow off at boarding.  Thanks to Cathy for bringing us crates.  Thanks to Becky/Tracy for coordinating supplies.  And Thanks to Wendy D for transporting supplies to 40/42. If I forgot anyone here it was no intentional, I think we all left with sun stroke.

See you all next weekend,

Heather

Found Dog 8/25: Chihuahua puppy – female

“Saturday, I found a female puppy on the side of the road.  People in the neighborhood said she was abandoned.  She appears to be only 6-8 weeks old and a Chihuahua.  She was extremely hungry and drank some water.  I am calling her Cricket.  She is absolutely adorable, affectionate, and playful. Please let me know if you know someone who could meet me and take her … otherwise I will have to bring her to the local shelter.  I really don’t want to do that because I feel like that could be a death sentence if she isn’t adopted fast enough.  Just heartbreaking!  This isn’t her fault and what a ruff start to her little life! ”

Please email webmaster@jcapl.org if you know who this puppy belongs to.

Adoption Day 8/25/12

Yesterday was a rocking day at adoption and we juggled lots of dogs trying to accommodate everyone and get as many dogs into great foster homes as possible.

We finalized 7 adoptions and have moved dogs in that have been waiting for fosters homes.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Angel, Shadow, Emily, Butler, Cinnamon, Sandy, Smokey!!!

A new foster took Cupcake. Wendy D. is taking LiLo (Tri-color Coonhound) today, who has been in a non-foster home, without a fence since being found.

We have a Chihuahua, we may take in and need a foster, but we are waiting on the completion of due diligence after being found, to make sure there is no chip.

Thanks to everyone at adoption yesterday.  We welcome our new fosters and volunteers that came out yesterday!  You all made it an awesome day!  Everyone worked pulling lots of activity together.  We had huge crowds, great help and animals to make us proud.
