2011 Angel Trees

angel trees 2011 featured

Our annual Angel Tree program has been a wonderful success the past, and we hope this year will be no different.

Each Angel Tree is decorated with ornaments featuring many of the pups and kitties (young and old) which JCAPL was able to help this year.  Each ornament also lists a supply item which is on JCAPL’s wish list.

Many of the items (such as dog/cat food) are easily purchased and affordable.  We continue to need supplies to assist the many dogs and cats we care for, and as our organization grows, so do our needs.

Here’s how you can help:

Several of our amazing Veterinary partners have offered to host our Angel Trees this year.  You can find them at Clayton Animal Hospital (Clayton NC), Carolina Crossings Veterinary Clinic (Benson NC), and Willowrun Veternary Hospital (Smithfield NC).

Visit on of these locations, and take a peek at our tree.  Pick an ornament which lists a supply you wish to provide.  Bring that item back to the vet office, and leave it in the donation boxes, or with reception.  JCAPL officers and board members make frequent visits to these locations to pick up the donations.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.  webmaster@jcapl.org

Recent Sr. Project a Huge Success for JCAPL

1

Victoria Johnson approached us a few months ago because she wanted to make a difference with her Senior Project at South Johnston High School.  She has a soft spot for animals, and really liked the JCAPL program because it is made of all volunteers, and there is no shelter involved as all our animals are kept and loved in foster homes while waiting to be adopted.  She realized that the amount of animals we can support on donated funds is limited, and since food is one of our greatest expenditures, she decided to hold a food drive for JCAPL.

With much planning, prep work, and advertising, Victoria’s project was a mega success – and is greatly appreciated by everyone at JCAPL and of course, our many furry friends!  She raised her own funds for advertising, and gathered her own volunteers to help make her project a success.

Victoria held several drop-off events at various locations, and collected over 1600 lbs of food!!!  Donations received included over 1300 lbs of dog/puppy food and treats, and 300 lbs of cat/kitten food.

She said she wants to hold another food drive for us, just because she loved doing this one so much.

Victoria is an up-and-coming success, and her efforts on behalf of JCAPL are not only greatly needed and appreciated, but are indicative of the compassionate, innovative, and driven individual she is.  We are very lucky that she found us, and we are sure that Victoria will be a quite a success beyond her High School career—wherever that may take her!

Thank you Victoria, from the entire JCAPL organization.

Hello everyone,We are all set to have a float planning meeting on Dec. 2 at 6:30. We will meet at a residence in Clayton at 6:30. Email me if you are interested in joining us, and i will provide you location details.Come with ideas on how to make our float get our p…oint across:

It would be great if we could get a grocery store to let us borrow a few shopping carts for the day. If you know anyone that works for a store that uses carts, please see what you can find out. It would be great pulicity for their store!

We need individually wrapped Lifesavers, Dum Dums, and Smarties for our candy cards. Please let me know if you can donate some.

If anyone knows where JCAPL’s hard yellow plastic sign that reads, “Don’t shop, Adopt!” is please let me know.

The Clayton parade is Dec 10 at 3, rain, shine or SNOW!

2011 Clayton Christmas Parade

Update 12/12/11

We had a great time in the parade this year!!  There was such a great crowd this year that we ran out of candy half-way down Main st!!  We will definately be better prepared next year.  There were amazing floats, and JCAPL was happy to be a part of this holiday tradition.

JCAPL will be participating in the 2011 Clayton Christmas Parade Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. on Main St in Clayton! Our theme this year was chosen by several dozen voters in our community of supporters.  The theme is going to be “Don’t shop, ADOPT!”

We must either already have all decorations for the float, or be able to get them donated. We do have an area rug, a fireplace, a Christmas tree, and a big stuffed dog left over from previous years. In case of bad weather, like we experienced last year, we also need to devise a way to put a “roof” over our heads in case it rains. The parade WILL go on even if it rains, OR SNOWS!We also will need individually wrapped donated candy, such as lifesavers, Smarties and Dum Dums for the candy cards we pass out.

If you are interested in helping to plan and decorate the float, ride on the float with your adopted pet, or walk along beside of the float passing out candy cards, please let me know so we can set a date to plan the decorations and then a date to decorate.
Thanks for ALL that you do!
