UPDATE 2/21/12:
FOUND AFTER MISSING 11 DAYS: Chevy went missing from a hotel in Kenly while the family was out to eat. They returned to their room and the door was opened and he was gone. Chevy only weighs about 1 lb. Since the owners were from Florida they looked as long as they could with no luck so they had returned to Florida.
They came back to Kenly Friday to look again. They put up flyers everywhere. A woman saw the flyers and then the family this afternoon and said she had just seen the tiny dog in a muddy field. He was hiding in an old shed. Chevy seems to be fine.
I met the family at Wilson’s ER Vet to check on the dog and to meet these people I have been talking to for the last 11 days. They are extremely happy to have their dog back especially since the woman had survived breast cancer and Chevy had been her constant companion. GREAT NEWS!! UNBELIEVABLE!!
Chevy was fairly clean but very thin so the family feels as though someone had him, and when they put up so many signs it must had made the person nervous and let him go. That is one lucky family to have found their tiny little dog in such good condition.

Male/n brindle colored Great Dane Cross found near intersection Mount Pleasant Road and Mount Pleasant Subdivision in Willow Springs on Wednesday 1/26.
No tags, not microchipped. Ears cut really too short like Pitt bulls used for fighting. Gentle, Scared, a bit thin but that is likely b/c 80% of my patients are fat.
If you have any idea who it may belong to please call Susan at 215-8758 or email sduncan-laf@nc.rr.com

“I am asking for a favor for [a co-worker]. His girlfriend was in a bad car accident that closed down Hwy. 95 in Dunn on Monday
(12/26/11), and her dog Stella aka Rufus got loose … and has yet to be found. ”
“There have been sightings within a 2 mile radius of the crash site. I know that we have TON of resources to get the word out and this story was in the newspaper in Dunn, the article is attached as well as a few pictures.” (see below)
“They have already put out a ton of information and are using the resources that they can think of so this may be something you have already heard of or there may be overlap, but this poor girl is frantic and I know that we can help get the word out.”
The Daily Record – December 29, 2011 Dunn, NC
Car flips on I-95 and terrified pet runs away.
One Raleigh woman is searching for her lost pet after being involved in wreck on Interstate 95 near Dunn Monday.
Emily Odom was returning home from Georgia where she was visiting family, when she was involved in an accident. During the wreck, her car flipped from the northbound lane into the southbound lane.
“It was really scary. A lot of wonderful people stopped to help me and, of course, the first thing I did was reach for my dog,” she said. After handing her frightened dog, Stella, to one of the good Samaritans, the dog was placed on the ground and ran away into the woods around exit 71 near Dunn.
“They put her on the ground to help me and she was so scared she just took off,” explained Ms. Odom. According to Ms. Odom, although the animal was shaken up due to the crash, she didn’t appear to be injured.
“I’ve heard that she has been spotted around Exit 70, near the Kangaroo. She’s probably hungry and is looking for humans now,” Ms. Odom said.
Stella, who also responds to the name “Rufus,” has a black and white coat. She looks similar to an Australian border collie. She weighs about 30 pounds and is wearing a red collar without tags. She also has a micro-chip.
Ms. Odom said she has owned the dog for seven years and is extremely worried. “My phone is glued to my side,” she said.
If found, call (478) 972-6455. On the Internet, go to www.findtoto.org and put in the Dunn zip code (28334) to see additional information on the dog.

Loving families needed to join our fostering team...
Adoptions have dropped because of the economic situation and the increase of owner surrender dogs and cats from folks who lost their homes. We have also had a big drop in foster homes for the same reason. Can you open your home and heart to just one dog or cat until adopted? JCAPL provides the medical care and basic needs like food and toys (more info about fostering here).
If you are unable to foster, but want to help, consider sponsoring an animal.
There are so many animals in need of our help. The ones we can't help end up at shelters which are so overcrowded they have dropped their hold times.
