To officially sign up as a JCAPL volunteer, we will need a completed and signed Volunteer Application and Waiver. This needs to be completed and turned in to a JCAPL representative at any JCAPL event or function. Download it now to get a head start.
Below are some of the fun ways our volunteers can dig in:
Volunteer at weekly Adoption events:
Every Saturday at PetSmart (White Oak in Garner), JCAPL is present with dogs and cats available for adoption. Typical hours for adoption are 10am-4pm for cats, and noon-4pm for dogs. (Summer hours vary due to the heat.)
We need people to help set up the Dog Adoptions with tents, tables, chairs, crates, dogs, paperwork, crates, donation jars, nametags, and oh yes… did I mention crates?!? During the event, we need people to attend to the pups. Make sure they are comfortable, have water, get walked frequently, get played with and socialized, and keep them behaved. We also need people to interact with the public, answer questions, help them find someone who knows the answers if you don’t. Then of course, we need help shutting down and packing things away.
It is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
Work in Cat Room at Petsmart at Whiteoak:
Our volunteers clean the cat room in late afternoon Monday through Saturday, and first thing on Sunday mornings (around 9-10am). Cat Room volunteers will receive training on what to do, where supplies are, etc before being assigned any days. Tasks involve cleaning litter boxes, cleaning cages, giving fresh food and water… and of course…. loving on our furry felines!!
It usually takes 1.5-2 hours to clean the cages correctly, depending on how many cats are there.

JCAPL has many special events and fundraisers throughout the year, such as the Puppy Poker Run, SPAYghetti Dinner, Dog Washes, and more! "My name is Coffee. I am beautiful, dark brown, neutered Lab mix puppy. JCAPL rescued me from a local shelter. While I was there, I had surgery to repair my Cherry Eye, which as you can see did NOT work. The great vets at Clayton Animal Hospital can repair my eye but JCAPL needs some help raising the funds for the surgery. Can you help me? Once my eye is all better, I can be on my way to finding my furever home! Please help if you can and share me with your friends. You can also give donations to our volunteers at any adoption event. JCAPL will gladly give you a donation receipt."
