Dog Wash at Wal-Mart a Winner for JCAPL

Wal-Mart in Clayton proved to be an excellent venue for the JCAPL Dog Wash! We had a great turnout, and were lucky to have the rain hold out until after we closed shop.

Our awesome team of volunteers serviced 69 dogs on Saturday, and raised $1139!  It was the 2nd biggest Dog Wash event in JCAPL history.    None of this would be possible without the support of our great volunteers and assistance from community sponsors and supporters!

We had a ton of traffic, and a lot of it came from walk-ins who were there to shop, went home to get their pooch, and came back.  Also several people drove from Smithfield/Goldsboro to come.  They saw it advertised in the Smithfield Herald.

From the 1 early walk-in we had, to the few dogs left at 1:15, we had a steady flow of traffic, and clean and satisfied pups and people :)   There are definitely a few things I learned should be added to my supply prep list — like DONT FORGET TO BRING THE CASH FOR THE CASH BOX!!  (Thanks Meda).

Special thanks to all our volunteers, and all the first-timers!  Meda and Sherri made a wonderful team at the front desk.  Audrey and LeVonda came back to volunteer at their 2nd Dog Wash, and jumped in wherever they could, including running around Wal-Mart to get answers from managers!  It was a pleasure to have all three Jennifers (first-time volunteers), and they made fabulous team members washing, drying, keeping the line moving, and sharing their sunny personalities with us!  Jessica learned a few new skills, and got a work out running around the parking lot gathering our posters.  And, thanks to Marielle for lending us a trailer so we could easily tote all the supplies we needed.  We had a wonderful showing of youth volunteers at this event too!  We could not have done so well without their eagerness and limitless energy.

Thanks to our training specialist, Shane Gentry of Sally Said So, for being on hand to help with pedicures and provide training tips.  And to Corina Iavarone of Stolen Moments Photography for stopping by to take some beautiful dog wash photos.  Also, thanks to gojoco.com, 4042.com, and the Smithfield Herald for advertising the event.  And of course to the Wal-Mart team for having us at their Clayton location for this spectacular event!

“The sacrifices of time, talent and treasure of our volunteers are endless, but the rewards are priceless.”  -Cathy Adams

THANK YOU.
